Sewanee Summer Clarinet Academy June 24-30 July 1-7 I’m honored to have been asked to be the director of the newly-formed Sewanee Summer Clarinet Academy! The Academy is part of the college and graduate-level Sewanee Summer Music Festival (SSMF) on the campus of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Academy is open to clarinetists aged 13-18 and is a one week intensive clarinet camp. (Students can register for both weeks, if desired.) I would love to have some of my own private students attend! Students will work with me and several of my graduate assistants on solo, chamber, and large clarinet ensemble music as well as have classes on music theory, technique, and audition preparation. Senior Alison O'Bryan will be presenting her Senior Recital at Robinson Secondary's Recital Hall on Saturday June 6 at 5:30 pm. We will be performing movements from both Mozart and Beethoven piano concerti featuring Young Artist Competition winners, and Brahms' "A German Requiem", featuring vocal soloists, full choir and orchestra. SOLO RECITAL, sponsored by the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Association, at The Lyceum in Old Town Alexandria on Sunday July 5 at 3:00pm. Free, donations to the WMPA gratefully accepted. Ali Verster (Robinson Secondary) and Emily Mardiks (McLean HS) for each being named Head Drum Major at their respective schools! 7th-graders Alex Swers and Elizabeth Bird for their excellent performances at the Fairfax County Band Directors Association competition on May 17! The middle school category was the most competitive part of the day, and I'm very pleased with Alex & Elizabeth's hard work and dedication. 8th grader Miriam Wanner and 11th graders Benny Mardiks & Susie Choi for their *outstanding* performances at the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association Woodwind Achievement Awards on May 9. I could not have been more proud of their performances. |
